I believe that...
the purposes of education are to inspire, enlighten, educate and develop strong well-rounded individuals for the future society. My purpose for teaching is to be able to prepare students for the opportunities that lie ahead for them. I believe that being fluent in technology is essential in today's society and necessary to be able to complete in a global market and advance in any career in the future. Our students should be prepared to work in a technologically advanced world and also learn how to be responsible for these tools and their power.
Children learn best in an atmosphere that promotes learning. Some features of a good learning environment are a guaranteed safe and healthy atmosphere. The curriculum of any classroom should include certain "basics" that contribute to a child's social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. These basics could be set forth with classroom rules that are made and enforced by students. If students create their own classroom rules, they have a better understanding of their expectations and will be more inclined to follow them. Rules would include, but not be limited to, respect for everyone including property, uniqueness and opinion. In a room with rules and order, students will be able to learn better and feel comfortable in their surroundings. Students should be able to relax and concentrate in a stress-free environment.
All children have certain needs that must be met if they are to grow and learn at their best. Some of these basic needs are effective learning methods. I believe that any kind of teaching and learning methods should be used in order to grasp the attention of students and are able to motivate the students to learn. Lessons that are taught in the classroom should be differentiated to cater to different learning styles. Teachers should be able to teach the same topic in a variety of ways because not every student learns the same. Methods could include listening practices, hands on projects, using videos and images or creating environments that are fully immersing like virtual reality or augmented reality. These methods could promote critical thinking and practices that students can carry with themselves for a lifetime. Though these methods, I believe that students would feel motivated to learn and would feel like what they are learning has purpose and use in the future.
The world is increasing moving toward being overtaken by technology. We can find apps that can do anything and rely on technology to do basic everyday things. A phone doesn't just make calls anymore but now can transport you virtually to a new world from your own home. With all this technology, we need to teach our students how to use these tools to make a positive impact. We need teach our students about how to be responsible digital citizens. The environment that we create for our students and the methods that we use in our classrooms can help us prepare our students to become vital assets to our society.
